Roofing In Swan Valley, ID
Swan Valley is a very small town in Idaho, boasting a population of only 303 people. It is known for its beautiful hikes and lush scenery. Native American tribes, like the Shoshonne and Bannock, resided in Swan Valley and attributed spiritual significance to it, valuing it for its natural resources. European settlers made their way to Swan Valley in the mid 19th century, establishing it as a place for livestock, crops, and transportation of goods via the Snake River.
The Snake River is 1,080 miles long, winding through Wyoming, Oregon, Idaho, and then feeding into the Colombia River in Washington. It is the largest tributary to the Colombia River and has served as a huge contributor of trade and crop irrigation, like potatoes and sweet beets. The Snake River is also a home to millions of salmon and steelhead every year, as they travel back from the ocean to spawn, a journey of over 900 miles.
Swan Valley is also home to the Snake Falls Dam, the oldest hydroelectric dam on the Snake River, giving energy to nearby mines. It was built in 1901 and was not equipped with the proper fish passage facilities. The C. J. Strike Dam was built further up the Snake River, which then combined with the Snake Falls Dam to become the first artificial barrier to anadromous fish, like salmon and steelhead. In 1976, the Snake Falls Dam was named a historic site and today it is a museum that can be visited by the general public Saturdays and seasonally from 10am to 4pm.
